Google: Will Become the Biggest Social Media Website Online in 2010.
Many online guru’s and social media watchers have predicted that during the early part of 2010 Google will launch its flagship service called Google wave. In that instant Google will become the worlds largest Social media service online. This has not come about by chance because Google has had its eye on this prize for a long long time.
You may not have noticed but Google has been quietly and systematically shopping for the last EIGHT years. Shopping for additional elements needed for its attack on the Billions of advertising dollars that are expected to increase dramatically in the Social Media market over the next 5 years or so.
Google has spent a fortune picking up tech companies such as:
Blogger ($-undisclosed 2003)
AOL ($1 billion 2005)
YouTube ($1.89 billion 2006)
Feedburner ($100 million 2007)
Grand Central VoIP ($45 million 2007)
Postini (Gmail) ($625 million 2007)
In truth the total number of companies that Google has aquired in this 8 year purge is a staggering 59. They have bought or swallowed up companies that alone had no chance of attacking Google’s dominance but each one had something that Google needed to expand its vision going forward.
Now there is no company on Earth that spends this vast fortune without an overall game plan. Now the game plan can change over time and there is no doubt in my mind that has happened to Google over these last three years. No one could possibly have guessed the impact or the vast reach that the fledgling Social Media sites would have by the time 2009 come around.
So with that knowledge and the cleaver takeovers made over the last 8 years coupled with Google’s expansion into email, Video and now its own computer operating system and web browser known as Google Chrome is it any surprise that by early next year Google will become the biggest single Social media site on the web when its Gmail capabilities are fully released.
Stand by For Google Wave.
Google wave is currently in Beta which is a closed trial. There are spots opening on an as needed basis but Google is closed lipped on when these openings happen. So its difficult to know and harder to get an invite. I am trying to get in but its not easy.
The question is what is Google wave: well first off its called Gwave by those in the know and as with all things that Google does its not going to be launched unitl its absolutely ready. Unlike some tech companies who dominate their market Like Microsoft.
Gwave when its officially launched will be a complete real time communications platform. the realtime part is the most interesting in terms of the search element of Google. Afterall that’s what Google is its a search engine. Well at least it was.
We are already seeing this real time search because it was rolled out across the world over the last week. you can read more about real time search
on this Blog post
This was an important part of the puzzle that Google has to get right before it goes all out with the launch of Gwave in 2010.
Now as things stand I am not in the inner circle of the Beta trial but I do know people who are. So trust me I will have a good handle on the whole process before it goes live and as always I will do my best to bring you news tips and advanced lessons on its use as 2010 unfolds. So until then have a great week and come back soon for more.
