Stepping Outside The “Comfort zone”. The Outsourcing Conundrum

Hello and welcome to 2010. Yes i know its late in the day for that but hey i’ve been very busy of late. I decided in December to change the carpet in my house to a hard wood floor. Not a monumental decision to most but what makes it different for me is the fact that I am a hands on type of guy who likes to learn new skills. Plus being an Engineer I am also cursed by having a curious type of mind. So over the last few days I have been installing the new floor and it looks fantastic.

Being curious and hands on has its price, Its the one aspect of my business that frankly drives me insane, the internal voice in my head that insists I do all my own design, analytics and everything else technical on my websites. And I have a lot of websites up online.

So I find myself doing the “menial” jobs of the technician instead of the more important advertising of those websites, which of course makes me money in the long term. I am not purile by nature so its not because I don’t trust other technicians with my company or because I believe I can do a better job its just, well its just my style.

So if there is a lesson to be had here its this: No man is an Island, and no company owner can possibly do every task that makes a company successful.

So if you are in this position and you find yourself bogged down by technical issues or support requests or the thousands of other aspects of an online business, then STOP and think for a minute. Concentrate on the 5 top things that make you money.

1. Advertsing.
2. lead generation
3. your auto responder
4. product creation
5. market research.

then outsource the rest like graphics, sales pages, website support etc. Trust me as someone who has done all this for years it takes a load off and costs relatively little compaired to the return you get on that investment.

I should have employed a flooring installer, but I actually thrive on a challenge. My friends said I would screw it up, and for a time I believed them myself. But knowing that I have an eye for detail and a passion to succeed I also knew that in the end the result would be a great achievement.

Welcome to 2010 and I hope that this year with my help you will learn the challenges and overcome the obstacles that hold you back. Or you could always contact me direct and ask for help. I am always willing to help to an extent for free. So use that resource but use it wisely.

Have fun this year and make a profit!
