Life: What to do when life throws a curve ball!

This last week has proven once again that life is a rollercoaster and we are only along for the ride.

We live our lives these days almost in a hurry with little thought to the main goal.
Which if we think for a moment should be to have fun, take calculated risks and make enough money to have more fun
Unfortunately Children, work, friends and chores all call on us during anytime on every day.
Life is actually a complex and complicated assortment of emotions, demands and CURVEBALLS.

I actually have a great day-job yes some of us admit that, and my day-job
supplaments my websites and other online activities. Now whats rare here is that I love my job
I have the best of both worlds in that my day-job keeps me interested and my websites
allow me to expanding my abilities and my education.
The internet is afterall an educators payground.

Having a day-job is a good thing. To some their day-job is as a professional marketer,or “Guru”

My day-job is as a mechanical Engineer specialising in Submarine propulsion systems.
I have been doing this for almost 30 years and I have enormous knowledge and both my
services and the services of my co-workers are in great demand.
I personally have vast experience in both conventional and Nuclear submarine propulsion
which is a very rare commodity. I served at sea in Submarines for many years as the chief engineer
and it was a very rewarding life. Sometimes I miss the seatime and others I wonder how I survived.

A recent turn of events in my Company has turned my world upside down.

I work for a company that supplies our expertise to governments around the world, as advisors or Subject matter Experts.

Early last week disaster struck when my supervisor quit suddenly without any warning.
This guy was one of the reason I actually enjoyed my work.
He was great fun, hardworking and genuinely a good person.
He “got it” on all levels.

The result was a devastating loss often felt by those who survive a sudden accident.
I and my co-workers where frankly amazed and upset by the sudden departure and
my week was lost in the fog of the “bereavement”.

The result of this has left a large hole in our Office which has to be filled. It needs
someone with skill, motivation and above all else the ability to work people
like a grand master works the chessboard.

For reasons known only to themselves The company picked me,
and trust me whilst I know I can do the job, I am NOT David.

I have a very hard task ahead and I know our team will suffer some set-backs as a result.
But I am determined to see this through and to go forward with energy and vigour.

So to answer the question:

What do you do when “life” throws you a curve ball.

And the answer is to duck!!

Its better to avoid the direct impact and live to fight back than to take a direct hit
and lose the fight without a token jesture of defiance

David was a friend as much as he was a boss. I and my collegues will all miss him greatly.
So will our company, although “they” don’t realise yet just how much!!

But David is not dead just somewhere else, we will still see him and have a beer with him.
His name will still ring around our office, stories will be told and funny moments re-visited.
I will tap his knowledge and buy his lunch for that privilige and life will move on regardless.

Which once again proves another famous anecdote: No man is an island

Thanks for sharing my grief.
